What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a system of primary health care that includes Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Remedial Massage ( tuina), exercise and breathing therapy (such as qigong), diet and lifestyle advice. In Australia, the most popular forms of TCM health care are acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

TCM has an uninterrupted history of development in China and other parts of East Asia dating back thousands of years. The primary feature of modern TCM is the premise that good health relies on the restoration and maintenance of harmony, balance and order to the individual.

Your Rebalance appointment may include any number of the following treatment modalities:

Acupuncture

The ancient art of Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years in Eastern medicine to treat and prevent diseases of all kinds. Single use, sterile needles are inserted into points around the body. Each point has a different function – sometimes obvious, sometimes subtle – to produce a response by the body and restore it to a healthy balance.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbs are amazing! They include plant parts including roots, barks, leaves, fruits and flowers, as well as minerals and other substances. Herbs are combined into formulas containing between 3 and 20 different substances, personally tailored by highly qualified and experienced practitioners, to suit individual patient needs.

Massage

Massage is an essential part of health and wellness. Loosening up tight muscles, increasing blood circulation, helping to improve posture, and treating work related injuries are just a few of the reasons people use massage as an adjunct health modality. At Rebalance TCM massage helps you to relax, revive and rejuvinate for complete health and wellbeing.

Herbal Teas

Rebalance TCM has devised a range of teas, made from Chinese, Western and Ayurvedic herbs. They are recommended for use to support treatment protocols, or alone as a refreshing drink. Ingredients are sourced reliably and ethically, and organic herbs are used where available. Take a look at our online shop, and try one of our delicious and healthy teas.

Cupping

Cupping Therapy is traditionally used in combination with an Acupuncture or Massage treatment. Cupping has been used as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2,500 years.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese Medicine practice that uses the herb “Mugwort” which is also known as Artemisia vulgaris or Ai Ye in Chinese Herbal Medicine. The herb has the property of being warming and it increases the blood flow with the use of heat therapy.

Gua Sha

This all-natural ancient Chinese healing technique involves scraping your skin with a massage tool to improve the skin’s look and health.
